Birds whose names begin with the letter ‘L’ represent different birds, all drawn from various species, but sharing the first letter of their names as a common feature. From the Ladder-backed Woodpecker to the Lark Bunting, the Lark Sparrow, the Lazuli Bunting, Lesser Gold Finch and the Lucy’s Warbler among others, all these birds represent various species of birds. The different species all have varied habitats, feeding habits and breeding methods in addition to other fundamental factors that make each bird unique in its own right. The Ladder-backed Woodpecker has specific ways of breeding. Their breeding is distinct, depending on the breed sub species. The breeding process for these birds has to depend entirely on the surrounding environment. The environment in this case means the habitats in which these birds thrive in within their life cycle. The Ladder-backed woodpeckers practice open breeding. The Lark Bunting is famous for its dexterity in survival tactics with each sub species of this bird family adopting different means of survival. Most of these birds are known to camouflage themselves from their predators to enhance their survival. It is not uncommon to find that where these birds thrive, their predators also dominate the same region. They mostly live in habitats that closely resemble their color. The Lark Sparrow bird species practices a random breeding process, and it incubates its eggs within a specific duration. Both males and females are involved in the incubation. A common feature of this category is that the birds lay an average of between three and six eggs. They use their nests as breeding grounds and for incubation of their eggs. When the chicks hatch, the role of both males and females is to feed the chicks until they are well able to feed themselves. The Lazuli Bunting is a social bird species. These species of birds are known to move regularly in groups. However, this group movement is entirely dependent on the season, and they oftentimes move in groups when they are breeding. The moving groups mostly comprise of females as the majority. One male has a role of serving all the present females. The Lazuli Bunting bird is therefore somewhat polygamous, since the males of this species are said to be quite a few in number. The Least Bittern is a species under real threat of extinction as a bird species. In fact, many of the subspecies have actually become extinct. This situation can be attributed to the increased and ever growing complications within the entire world’s environment. Man has been the number one destroyer of habitat of not only these, but also other birds and animal species. He has been on the frontline of cutting down trees, burning bushes, polluting water bodies and many other hazardous activities that complicate the life of animals and other living species, including these birds.
