The birds whose names begin with letter B are many and come from different species and orders and families. However, all of them have one unifying characteristic of belonging in the class of Aves. They are also well distributed through out the globe although a good number of them will not be found the Antarctic and Arctic Zones. Most of them are to be found living in tropical and subtropical lowland forests. Balaenicipitidae – Shoebill A majority of them have totally different feeding systems ranging from seed eaters, fruit eaters to those that feed on fellow birds and worms. They also breed in totally different environments, some in water and others in forests. Shoebills are native to the African continent especially the Central African Republic. They are also to be found in the eastern part of Africa especially to the north of Uganda and the southern part of Sudan. Other regions where they are more prevalent include Tanzania, Rwanda and the Democratic R public of Congo. The Black Skimmer It is a very common bird which is scientifically known as Rynchops Niger and belongs in the skimmer family of birds. They shift breeding places in response to the floods that pound their habitats. This helps them expand their feeding areas to areas near the shallow rivers. Burhinidae- the Stone Curlew This is a large family of birds that has several species and genera. The stone curlew is a small tropical bird that is most commonly found arid and semi arid areas of the tropics. Contrary to the common notion that it does well in wetlands, several species of the Stone curlew are known to do equally well in semi arid areas. Babbling Starling This is a type of bird species that is usually found in Angola. Its scientific name is Neocichla gutteralis and belongs in the subfamily Sturninae. Its other common names are Spréo à gorge noire in French, German name is Weissflügelstar; while in the Spanish language, it is called Estornino de Alas Blancas. Species of these birds are mainly found in the western part of Angola, Zambia and also to the west of North Western Malawi. Some traces have also been spotted to the South West of Tanzanian mainland It is a cooperative breeder and is known to nest in tree holes that are lined with lichens, grass and moss. The size of the clutch in a nest is normally two eggs, white in color and which have red brown spots on them Bamboo woodpecker This is a species of birds that which is found in the Picidae family and is usually found in the Asian countries of Malaysia, Myanmar, Laos, Thailand and Vietnam. The habitat includes tropical or subtropical dry forests as well as tropical or subtropical lowland forest. Baird’s Sparrow This bird is mostly found breeding in the North Dakota and also in some parts of Canadian Provinces of Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Alberta. Not much of information of the winter escapades of this bird are known, though some of them include Southern Arizona, west Texas and New Mexico as well as parts of Northern Mexico.
